Nobody Is Above the Law Rallies in California Will Demand Trump’s Impeachment

San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles and San Diego are among hundreds of rallies taking place in all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

LOS ANGELES — December 17, 2019. On Tuesday the night before the U.S. House of Representatives votes to impeach Donald Trump for his high crimes and misdemeanors, activists will gather at several locations in California as part of the nationwide “Nobody Is Above the Law” rallies. These events will be some of the hundreds of actions occurring nationwide in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Nationally more than 100,000 people have already RSVP’ed to attend.

The mobilization is part of a massive, grassroots effort to ensure Congress holds President Donald Trump accountable for using military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 elections. Protestors will demand that the House of Representatives fulfills its constitutional duty by impeaching Trump. Protestors will also call for the Senate remove Trump from office for attempting to rig the 2020 elections. Congress must show that no one—including the president in the White House—is above the law.

Activists will use #NotAboveTheLaw to engage communities on social media. Information about other events can be found at Impeach.org.

STATEMENT BY KATHAY FENG, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF CALIFORNIA COMMON CAUSE:
“This is about what is right and wrong, and protecting the Constitution and rule of law. From abusing his power by soliciting a bribe from the Ukraine government, to obstructing justice in the Russia investigation, to failing to safeguard our elections, to profiting off the presidency, to breaking campaign finance laws, President Trump has shown a pattern of impeachable conduct.”

“The impeachment of President Trump is not just about Donald Trump – it is about making clear that in America, nobody, including the president of the United States, is above the law. If we simply turn a blind eye to Trump’s behavior or let him walk clean, that is a sign for the next president, and those who follow, that they can get away with abuses of power, obstruction of justice, and violating the Constitution. Staying silent is not an option. If President Trump is not held accountable and his lawlessness is not called out, it enables him and future lawless presidents.”

Members of the media covering the events should contact the organizers listed for interviews at the rallies. For interviews with Kathay Feng, contact Lowens@commoncause.org.
