Political Watchdog Commission, Say No to Bitcoin Campaign Donations

California Common Cause today urged the California Fair Political Practices Commission to not allow campaigns to accept crypto-currency until the emerging technology is better studied and understood. The commission voted 3-1 to disallow the contributions.

California Common Cause today urged the Los Angeles city rules committee to approve a package of public financing reforms that would enhance the influence of small donors on city council and citywide elections and reduce the influence of wealthy, special interest donors.

California Common Cause Launches Election Protection Hotline and Alerts Voters to New Opportunities

California Common Cause and Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law will assist voters during the November 6 election. The nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations will operate an Election Protection Hotline, 1-866-OUR-VOTE, for voters who have questions or experience trouble at the polls. The 1-866-OUR-VOTE hotline will be answered live on Election Day by a volunteer legal team.

Forum on How to End Gerrymandering in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Monday, July 30, 2018 - California Common Cause and Equity for Cambodians are inviting community members to a public forum August 4 to learn more about how a proposal to create an independent citizens redistricting commission to draw Long Beach City Council districts will make redistricting more responsive to Long Beach communities. The Long Beach City Council is poised to ask voters to end political gerrymandering in its city by placing the proposal on the November ballot.
