Meet Sean…

Sean McMorris is the Transparency, Ethics, and Accountability Program Manager for California Common Cause and a longtime resident of L.A. County. Sean received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science at Columbia University where, as a Freeman Scholar, he studied for one year in Vietnam before graduating with honors. Sean taught English in the U.S. and abroad before receiving his master’s degree in International Affairs at The George Washington University in Washington D.C.

As a graduate student, Sean interned at the U.S. Department of State and the Foreign Service Institute and study in Korea as a U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholar. Before coming to Common Cause, Sean was an investigative journalist and community organizer where he exposed corruption and advocated for good government reforms. Sean was a lead drafter and campaign manager of a ballot measure that brought election and campaign finance reform to the City for Alhambra, CA. He also was a key member of a coalition that successfully advocated for extensive reforms to Los Angeles City’s public matching funds campaign finance system.

As a member of the California Common Cause team, Sean’s work is focused on government ethics and transparency laws, money in politics research, and state and local advocacy for good government reforms.
