Today is the fifth anniversary of the Supreme Court's disastrous ruling in Citizens United, and to commemorate the occasion, lawmakers are proposing a slate of 7 bills to put our government back in the people's hands

Last Tuesday, the City of Tallahassee passed a landmark anti-corruption ballot measure that stops political bribery, exposes dark money, and empowers every voter to be heard -- the first of its kind in the nation.

A coalition led by Common Cause Maryland has secured passage of Fair Elections legislation that will let candidates in Montgomery County run on a base of small donations from individuals, with public matching funds.

The Sept. 26 Metro article “Montgomery vote nears on public funding of campaigns” focused on the reelection rates of political incumbents. The real value of public financing becomes apparent after Election Day. Candidates who rely on small donations supplemented by matching funds can make serving the public interest, not the private interests of their major donors, their priority.

A new poll commissioned by Public Citizen shows strong bipartisan support among voters for the “People’s Pledge,” an agreement more candidates are entering to curb the influence of outside spending in their campaigns.
