A federal appeals court delivered some great news to North Carolina voters this afternoon: they’ll be able to register and vote on the same day for the mid-term election!

A federal appeals court decision restoring Election Day voter registration in North Carolina is an important victory for voters and voting rights advocates in the Tar Heel State and underscores the need for Congressional action to strengthen voting rights across America, Common Cause said today.

A new tool is available to help overseas voters get and cast their absentee ballots

Twenty-three states and the District of Columbia allow military and overseas voters (not domestic voters) to return voted ballots by email, facsimile and/or other Internet transmission; six allow Internet return for military members in “hostile fire” zones, and one – Alaska -- allows it for all absentee voters. But Internet voting is very insecure; ballots returned this way are at risk for manipulation, loss or deletion.

Amid evidence that millions of Americans failed to vote in 2012 because they could not get to the polls on Election Day, Common Cause has joined a coalition of voter advocates to launch a campaign to help overseas, military, college, and other potential absentee voters secure, fill out, and mail back their ballots for the November mid-term election.

California Common Cause scored three major victories this weekend, as Gov. Jerry Brown signed three bills to make ballot initiatives more open and transparent, boost voter turnout, and ensure every vote is counted.
