Election Protection

The President touched on one of the most neglected issues of the 2016 presidential campaign

Charter Amendments 1 and 2, on the Los Angeles March 3rd primary election ballot, would increase voter participation and hold politicians accountable by holding municipal and school board elections at the same time as federal and state elections.

Today, California Common Cause joined several other groups, like our friends at League of Women Voters, to serve notice on the DMV to shape up, or we’re suing.

As a legal intern at Common Cause this fall,,I had an exciting and important chance to work on Election Protection.

Election Protection, a non-partisan hotline through which volunteers troubleshoot polling place problems and provide voters with information, received twice as many inquiries and complaints on Tuesday as it had during the last mid-term election in 2010.

In a throwback to the days of Jim Crow, up to 40,000 Georgians who had registered to vote found themselves confused about whether their ballots would even be counted, cut out of democracy by antiquated voting laws and procedures.
