Denver, CO — Yesterday, more than 250 pro-democracy activists, led by Common Cause Colorado, rallied during the MLB All-Star Game festivities in support of The For The People Act. After the MLB relocated the 2021 All-Star Game from Atlanta, Georgia to Denver, Colorado, local pro-democracy organizations used the opportunity to celebrate Colorado’s voting laws and urge support for The For The People Act to set national standards for voting rights and election administration.

Supporters enjoyed musical performances by Guerilla Fanfare Brass, Hazel Miller, Brothers of Brass, video remarks from Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold and Congressman John Sarbanes, and speeches from Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, Denver County Clerk Paul Lopez, and frontline postal workers.

“Colorado is lucky to have some of the strongest voting rights laws and highest voter participation rates in the country,” said Cameron Hill, Associate Director of Common Cause Colorado. “What state you live in should not determine if you have access to the ballot or if you have a voice in our government. The For The People Act is the solution we need to end the cynical voter suppression tactics happening around the country and to protect the freedom to vote for every American.”

The For the People Act is a comprehensive democracy reform package that will protect and strengthen the right to vote, reduce the influence of money in politics, end racial and partisan gerrymandering, and amplify the voices of everyday Coloradans.

“The For The People Act will protect the right to vote for everyone in Colorado,” said Sarah Clark, Lead Organizer with the Colorado Sierra Club. “We strongly urge Sens. Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper to do whatever it takes to ensure this common-sense democracy reform package becomes law.”

The For The People Act is supported by a broad coalition of voting, civic, environmental and women’s rights organizations, including Common Cause Colorado, Colorado Sierra Club, Colorado Working Families Party, Women’s Lobby of Colorado, Colorado Latino Forum, Colorado AFL-CIO, Colorado Senators Michael Bennet and John Hickenlooper, Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, and many more.
