Role: Communications Intern (CA) 

Location: Remote within California 

Start Date: February 1st – April 15th, 2024 

Reports to: Operations & Development Manager 

Details: This is a part-time internship (20 hours/week), starting Thursday, February 1st and ending Monday, April 15th   

Essential functions: Common Cause California is seeking an intern to assist with and learn about our communications work. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a commitment to a fair and transparent democracy, and who is interested in learning more about government affairs and the legislative process.   

Skills you will build and work you will be involved in 

The intern will: 

  • Keep our members and the public engaged in our efforts to strengthen our democracy 
  • Create website and social media content, including blog posts, graphics, one-pagers, videos, or other content types 
  • Help manage social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram 
  • Build skills in effective external outreach; learn about our key priorities to create a more accountable government in California 

Qualifications 

You will be a good fit for this internship if you have: 

  • A passion for learning about elections, government affairs, and the legislative process 
  • A desire and an ability to work in a non-partisan manner  
  • A willingness to build your organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • A willingness to build your writing and listening skills 
  • A willingness to learn new skills 

Compensation: $17/hour for 20 hours per week for the duration of the internship 

Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.
