Darien Times: Despite support, early voting won’t start in CT this year. Here’s why.

Below is Cheri Quickmire’s comment about the disappointing response from state officials on early voting.

Cheri Quickmire, executive director of the election watchdog Common Cause in Connecticut agreed Monday that it’s important to get the early voting period correct, but failing to get a system in place this year means a missed chance at trying it out with less at-stake. “It would have been a good opportunity for a dry run,” Quickmire said in an interview. “It’s disappointing,” said Quickmire, a chief proponent of the amendment to the Constitution, which won more than 674,000 votes, about 60 percent of the statewide vote.
