The U.S. Census determines who has fair representation in our government and who can access key resources. That is why Common Cause is committed to making sure that everyone is counted.
Every 10 years, the federal government must conduct a census, or a count of everyone living in the U.S. Getting this process right is crucial as the results determine how voting districts are drawn, how funding and resources are allocated to states, and so much more.
We work in the courts, in the legislature, and on the ground to make sure that the census is conducted fairly and independent from politically-motivated agendas.

Würde man bei der US-Volkszählung eine Frage nach der Staatsbürgerschaft hinzufügen und Millionen von US-Bürgern von der Aufteilung der Bevölkerung ausschließen, würde dies unzählige Amerikaner - ob sie nun die amerikanische Staatsbürgerschaft besitzen oder nicht - davon abhalten, an der Volkszählung teilzunehmen.
Damit unsere Regierung allen zugutekommt, ist es entscheidend, dass die Volkszählung korrekt durchgeführt wird. Der Kongress muss diese gefährliche Gesetzgebung ZURÜCKWEISEN und dazu beitragen, faire und genaue Volkszählungen zu gewährleisten.

Common Cause fordert alle Mitglieder des US-Repräsentantenhauses auf, mit „Nein“ zu stimmen, wenn der sogenannte „Equal Representation Act“ (HR 7109) am späten Nachmittag zur Abstimmung kommt. Der Gesetzesentwurf würde das US Census Bureau daran hindern, seiner verfassungsmäßigen Aufgabe nachzukommen, alle zehn Jahre die Bevölkerung in den Vereinigten Staaten im Rahmen der Volkszählung zu erfassen. Der Gesetzesentwurf ignoriert außerdem die Verfassung.
