Gruppen fordern Änderungen bei der Volkszählung, um die Gefängnisbevölkerung für die Neugliederung der Wahlkreise genau zu erfassen

Heute forderten Common Cause und die Prison Policy Initiative das US Census Bureau auf, die Art und Weise zu ändern, wie es die Gefängnisbevölkerung alle zehn Jahre zählt. Der Einsatz von Differential Privacy durch das Bureau, also die absichtliche Einfügung ungenauer Informationen in die Bevölkerungsdaten, führt zu unnötigen Fehlzählungen in den Daten, die von staatlichen und lokalen Behörden zur Neugliederung der Wahlkreise verwendet werden. In einem Brief an Direktor Robert L. Auch Umfragen von Lerners Gruppe zeigten, dass die Wähler das neue System zu ihrem Vorteil nutzten. Mehr als 801 Prozent der Wähler bewerteten mindestens zwei Kandidaten bei der Bürgermeister-Vorwahl, und mehr als 401 Prozent bewerteten fünf Kandidaten.

Lerner betonte auch, dass die Verzögerung bei den Ergebnissen nicht auf die Rangfolgewahl zurückzuführen sei, sondern vielmehr auf staatliche Gesetze zum Schutz der Rechte von Wählern bei der Briefwahl.

Common Cause is urging every member of the U.S. House of Representatives to vote “yes” on a resolution to create a select committee to investigate the attack January 6th on the United States Capitol by a violent mob attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. The letter notes that Common Cause plans to key-vote final passage of H.Res. 503 to create the select committee to investigate the deadly insurrection in our next Democracy Scorecard, which we send to our 1.5 million members.
