Gruppen fordern Änderungen bei der Volkszählung, um die Gefängnisbevölkerung für die Neugliederung der Wahlkreise genau zu erfassen

Heute forderten Common Cause und die Prison Policy Initiative das US Census Bureau auf, die Art und Weise zu ändern, wie es die Gefängnisbevölkerung alle zehn Jahre zählt. Der Einsatz von Differential Privacy durch das Bureau, also die absichtliche Einfügung ungenauer Informationen in die Bevölkerungsdaten, führt zu unnötigen Fehlzählungen in den Daten, die von staatlichen und lokalen Behörden zur Neugliederung der Wahlkreise verwendet werden. In einem Brief an Direktor Robert L. With a vote expected today, Common Cause is urging the U.S. House of Representatives to pass the “Washington, DC Admission Act” (HR 51) to give residents of the nation’s capital a full say in the governing of the nation. In a letter to every member of the House yesterday, Common Cause emphasized the legislation is about more than having voting Members of Congress, it is about the more than 700,000 Americans residing in Washington having a voice and being heard.

Sarah Goff, Deputy Director at Common Cause New York, said the primary election process has moved “remarkably smoothly” so far, given the challenges, though people may have to wait two to three weeks to know Tuesday's official results.
