Role: Delaware Campaign Finance Research Assistant

Location: Virtual

Start Date: May 15, 2023

Reports to: Claire Snyder-Hall

Details: This role is part-time (15 hours/week), and temporary (8 weeks).

Essential functions:  Common Cause Delaware is prioritizing campaign finance reform this year, and we want to know: Who is bankrolling political campaigns in Delaware? Do campaign contributions influence policymaking? What kind of campaign finance reforms might be implemented in the First State? Do we want to work towards a “democracy dollars” voucher program? Or would a small-dollar matching funds program work better?

We need a summer intern with strong research, analytical, organizing, and communications skills who can help create a plan for change. We need someone to analyze campaign finance data and investigate options for reform by reviewing the literature and investigating what has been done in other states. We need someone to help convene and run a webinar to educate the CCDE board, activists, and the public about policy options. And we need someone to help communicate our findings and aspirations via social media.

Even though this position is virtual, being available to help with an in-person event in Wilmington on May 24 would be an added bonus.

Responsibilities:

  • Research campaign contribution data.
  • Analyze the impact on policy.
  • Research various options for campaign finance reform.
  •  Help organize a webinar.
  • Social media posts on the research and other issues.
  • Other duties as negotiated.

Qualifications:

  • Strong research skills.
  • Policy analysis skills.
  • Social content creation skills.
  • Zoom webinar skills are a plus.
  • Ability to work with a diverse range of people.
  • Flexibility, dependability, and a good sense of humor.

Salary: $2,040 for the 8 weeks paid in 4 equal twice monthly payments on the 15th and last day of the month.

Classification: This position is classified as temporary and therefore not included in the union-represented collective bargaining unit.

To Apply: Complete the application found here. It will take about 15 minutes to respond to the questions but a cover letter, resume, and Gmail email address is required. Some offices may require a writing sample at the time of the interview.

Covid-19 vaccines are required, except where prohibited by law. Reasonable accommodations will be provided when required by law.
