A new report from Common Cause Wisconsin found that only 10.3 percent of winning candidates defeated their opponents by less than 10 percent in 2014.

In a win for judicial independence, the Supreme Court this week upheld the ability of states to ban judges and judicial candidates from directly soliciting campaign contributions in their judicial elections.

The Supreme Court seems determined to dismantle our country’s campaign finance rules, with decisions like Citizens United v. FEC and McCutcheon v. FEC leaving lawmakers constitutionally prohibited from placing common sense limits on the amount of money raised and spent on elections.The results of their decisions have been disastrous.

Today Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives introduced The Redistricting Reform Act of 2015 to end the gerrymandering of congressional districts by requiring that they be drawn by an unbiased citizen commission.

Common Cause is calling on Governors Jeb Bush and Scott Walker to level with Republican primary voters and obey campaign finance laws as they explore running for President. In letters sent to each on Friday we urged them to acknowledge the obvious – that they’re actively pursuing a potential candidacy – and to stop sidestepping laws that put limits on fundraising by declared candidates and those who are “testing the waters.”
