Yesterday, Axios published an article detailing how the clock is running out for the Senate to confirm Gigi Sohn, President Biden’s nominee to be a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission. President Biden nominated Ms. Sohn over six months ago and the vacancy has been open for over a year, keeping the FCC deadlocked in a 2-2 split. A deadlocked FCC is unable to fully address broadband affordability or move forward on a host of other communications reforms vital to our democracy.

Common Cause Submit Comments To NTIA Making Recommendations on Broadband Deployment, Affordability, and Digital Equity Programs 

Today, Common Cause submitted comments in response to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration’s Request for Comment on the implementation of broadband programs found within the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act Implementation. The programs include the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program and Digital Equity Act programs.

Today, Common Cause and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, called on Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to suspend the Twitter account of President Donald Trump for his repeated violations of Twitter’s Civic Integrity Policy by spreading disinformation about the 2020 Election to millions of Twitter users online. The letter points to President Trump’s repeated attempts to disrupt the proper counting of ballots, undermine the democratic process, and stir unrest through his tweets.
