When President Trump and Elon Musk began attacking federal workers, Common Cause stepped up with a petition demanding an end to this reckless purge. Thousands of people signed on, sharing the ways that the purge is hurting them.

Hundreds of Common Cause members are current and former civil servants who know firsthand what’s at stake.

These workers aren’t just numbers on a government payroll. They are the backbone of our democracy, the scientists, program administrators, air traffic controllers, nurses, social workers, and public safety officials who keep America running.

Now, they’re speaking out. 

In their words, you’ll find frustration, fear, and a fierce commitment to serving the American people. They are standing up for us; now we have to stand up for them.

“Another rug pull, and gutting the federal government by undermining [it’s] ability to function." Kim, California
“I am a retired Air Traffic Controller who worked for the DOT/FAA for 25-years. I would never have wanted a political loyalist to lead the Department of Transportation (DOT) or the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) during my years of public service. “I am a Federal Retiree. I depend on my EARNED annuity, processed through OPM,  and also EARNED Social Security for income. Federal employees dedicate their careers to support our democracy and are our only barrier to a totalitarian takeover, the Trump Agenda. This can and will drastically and irreparably harm their earned federal benefits going forward, as well as our freedoms in general.” Barbara, Montana
“I am a retired government employee and current Union Steward. Employees cannot be rushed into voluntarily resigning with a stipend while under threat of being let go because they are probationary employees. Homeland Security has a huge number of probationary (under 3 years service) officers due to the high turnover at the agency. We cannot put the traveling public at risk by further reducing the workforce needed to secure safe travels. This insanity must stop!” Christina, Hawaii
