Declaración de Marilyn Carpinteyro, copresidenta interina de Common Cause
No one is above the law and the conviction of Peter Navarro on two counts of contempt of Congress sends a strong message to anyone who refuses to comply with congressional subpoenas. Congressional subpoena power is critical to the system of checks and balances that is the foundation of our democracy and it cannot be ignored without repercussions. That is why Common Cause strongly urged every Member of the U.S House of Representatives to hold Navarro in contempt of Congress in April 2022. Coupled with the previous contempt conviction of Steve Bannon, today’s jury verdicts will help to ensure that Congress is able to perform its vital oversight role.
