Common Cause Florida Offers Reflection on the General Election

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, November 19, the Election Canvassing Commission met to certify the  results of the 2024 General Election in Florida.

Yesterday, November 18,  was the certification deadline for all Florida counties to finalize and officially certify the local county results. Voters can view final totals here.

According to the Florida Division of Elections, nearly 11 million Florida voters participated in the general election, for a 78.85% turnout.

In response to the general election, Amy Keith, executive director of Common Cause Florida issued the following statement:

“No matter the outcome, we must all accept the results of a free, fair, and secure election.

“Despite facing long lines in multiple  counties, voter intimidation at some polling locations, and considerable confusion over new vote-by-mail request rules, we were pleased to see that a great number of registered voters were able to cast their ballots in the 2024 General Election. We were also pleased to see the certification process move forward smoothly. We owe election workers our gratitude for the hard work they’ve done and continue to do, especially in the face of added challenges and threats.

“We can continually improve our elections and our democracy by expanding accessibility — making it easier to register to vote, easier to vote by mail and expanding early voting options, for example — so that many more Floridians can have a say in the future they want to build for their families and communities.”
