Our Impact

With the support of our dedicated members, Common Cause Florida has shown up time and time again to protect Floridians’ rights.

We have been holding the government of Florida accountable since the 1970s and we will continue to fight for open government, fair representation, and free and fair elections in the Sunshine State.

When Common Cause Florida takes action, we make a real difference for democracy.

Fighting for Fair Maps

Common Cause Florida, Fair Districts Now, the Florida State Conference of the NAACP, and individual voters from across Florida filed a lawsuit in federal court arguing that the Florida Legislature and Governor DeSantis engaged in intentional racial discrimination in violation of the 14th and 15th Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. Gov. DeSantis and the Legislature crafted and approved the state’s current congressional map. The suit alleges that the map was intentionally drawn to dilute the voting power of Black Floridians.

Leading Voter Protection Efforts

Each election year, Common Cause Florida leads the 35+ partners in the Florida Election Protection Coalition to field the largest nonpartisan voter protection program in the state. This coalition mobilizes hundreds of nonpartisan volunteers to serve as a first line of defense for voters: answering voters’ questions, making sure voters know their rights, and rapidly responding to attempts to intimidate or obstruct voters. Election Protection has helped countless Floridians make themselves heard at the ballot box.

Election Protection

Common Cause has been fighting for and winning key democracy reforms since our founding in 1970.
