Célébrons nos futurs leaders en matière d’engagement civique

Highlights from the Common Cause Student Advocacy Days

The Common Cause Student Action Alliance is a pioneering program in which students demonstrate their commitment to civic leadership, advocating for democratic values on campus and in the community. Students from across the country recently coordinated a series of action days

Students in Georgia joined the Common Cause Georgia team at the legislature on HBCU Day. The governor issued a proclamation making March 15 HBCU Day. After attending the press conference, students met with their representatives and distributed information about the need for voting rights legislation that makes voting more accessible. Students also had a luncheon with a Black lob- byist to learn about the professional journey and successes and challenges they experienced as a lobbyist.

North Carolina students joined the Common Cause North Carolina staff for the HBCU Student Action Alliance’s bi- ennial advocacy day. Students held their own press con- ference and met with their representatives to discuss the need for fair districts, HBCU funding, and voting rights legislation that makes voting more accessible.

California students joined the California Common Cause team to champion democracy reforms like fixing the state’s broken recall system, ending local gerrymandering, and expanding language access at the polls.

The Maryland team met with their representatives and joined coalition partners for a United for Justice Advo- cacy Day. They advocated for expungement, not trying juveniles as adults, re-entry services, better conditions at correctional facilities, and fully funding the soon-to- open women’s pre-release center.

Thank you for supporting this foundational program, and please join us in celebrating these students’ many accomplishments and cheering them on in their future endeavors!
