“A Closer Look” At the Trump Campaign’s Alleged Payment to ‘Adult’ Film Star
Questions connexes
Journalists across America are paying close attention – and rightly so – to Common Cause’s complaints this week that President Trump’s 2016 campaign may have violated federal law by secretly spending $130,000 to buy the silence of an “adult” film star who claims to have had an affair with Trump in 2006.
The allegation is serious business; if Daniels was paid to save then-candidate Trump from publicity that would hurt his campaign – as seems likely – it was a campaign contribution. And federal law requires that campaign donations and spending be reported to the Federal Election Commission.
The story has been picked up by Le Washington Post, Politique, MSNBC, le Wall Street Journal and dozens of other news outlets – not all of them conventional. Around the Common Cause office, we thought this “Closer Look,” from late night TV host Seth Meyers, was particularly worth sharing.
