Lighting Up Times Square: Our New #FireMusk Billboard

He bought his way into government – now he’s trying to tear it apart.

After spending nearly $300 million to help elect Donald Trump and a Republican majorité, billionaire Elon Musk is now trying to wreak havoc on ordinary people.

His shadowy, so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is slashing budgets, attacking civil servants, and funneling resources into his own companies – all without congressional oversight, and at our expense.

So, Common Cause is fighting back. We just put up a massive billboard in Times Square demanding that Trump fire Musk to make sure the world knows why this unelected billionaire can’t be allowed to control our government.

Elon Musk has already:

  • Illegally attempted to shut down United States Agency for International Development (USAID), an independent government agency;
  • Gained access to sensitive data, (and is now seeking access to taxpayers’ social security numbers);
  • Fired or pushed out des milliers of federal workers, including 6,000 veterans;
  • Ignored his many conflicts of interest, even though his businesses have enjoyed at least $38 billion in government contracts, loans, subsidies and tax credits;

And so much more – you can read more about some of his most egregious actions here:

This is a hostile takeover of our democracy, and we won’t just sit by and watch it happen. With your support, we’re taking actions – like our newest billboard – to expose Musk’s corruption, mobilize the voice of the people, and demand accountability.

And it’s already generating a lot of buzz check out Rachel Maddow’s recent segment mentioning the billboard and our #FireMusk campaign:

Head to the 2:25 mark to hear more about our billboard!

We can only do this because supporters like you stepped up to make it possible – together, Common Cause members and Americans across the country have made over 12k grassroots donations, sent thousands of letters and calls to Congress, and signed our petitions opposing Elon Musk’s role in government almost half a million times!

And your pressure is working: Just this week, President Trump convened his cabinet and made it clear that Cabinet Secretaries are in charge of policy and staffing changes, NOT Elon Musk.

The fight isn’t over yet, and we’re going to need all hands on deck to keep up the heat. Join the effort today: write your representatives, share this story with your friends, sign our petition, and support our work with a contribution.

Petition: FIRE Elon Musk

Elon Musk is trying to run our government like it’s one of his companies. Our democracy deserves better.

We demand the immediate firing of Elon Musk from ANY position of influence within our government. Musk’s dangerous influence must end now.

It is time to restore power to the American people and ensure that decisions are made by those accountable to the people, not the wealthy elite.

Congress failed. Now it’s up to us.

All week, we’ve heard from allies on Capitol Hill that their phones were ringing off the hook – and lawmakers on the fence felt enough heat that many switched their votes our way at the very last minute.

House Republicans’ Spending Plan is a Power Grab for Trump and Musk – Democrats Must Say No

Congressional Republicans' new continuing resolution (CR) would keep the government funded but at a dangerous cost, cutting key social programs while giving Donald Trump and Elon Musk unprecedented control over federal spending. Democrats in the Senate must stand up to this power grab.
