David Vance est le stratège national des médias de Common Cause. Il travaille avec le personnel au niveau national et au niveau des États pour générer des médias qui amplifieront la voix et feront avancer stratégiquement le programme de réforme démocratique de l'organisation nationale et de ses 35 bureaux d'État.

Avant de rejoindre Common Cause en 2016, David a passé une décennie en tant que directeur des communications et de la recherche au Campaign Legal Center, travaillant sur les questions de financement des campagnes, de droits de vote et d'éthique gouvernementale. Au cours de son mandat, la notoriété médiatique de l'organisation a connu une croissance exponentielle et en 2014, elle a reçu un prix MacArthur pour les institutions créatives et efficaces.

David possède une vaste expérience en relations publiques et en journalisme. Il a été directeur des affaires publiques d'une association commerciale internationale et a travaillé pour deux agences de relations publiques à Washington, DC, où il s'est occupé des affaires publiques, des relations publiques et des questions de crise à l'échelle nationale et internationale pour un large éventail de clients d'entreprises, d'associations et d'organismes à but non lucratif.

Avant d'entrer dans le domaine des relations publiques, David a travaillé pour plusieurs bureaux de presse à Washington, DC, WCAX-TV à Burlington, Vermont ainsi que pour le Washington Post.

David est originaire de Washington, DC et est titulaire d'un MSJ de la Medill School of Journalism de l'Université Northwestern et d'un MFA en écriture créative de l'Université George Mason.

Today, the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, ruled the state’s extreme partisan political gerrymander in violation of the state constitution and ordered districts redrawn by February 9, 2018. Common Cause helped to recruit the plaintiffs in the case and filed an amicus brief, which offered alternative constitutional maps, drawn by a panel of experts, that the legislature can utilize to meet the court deadline. Today, Common Cause filed complaints with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Election Commission (FEC) alleging that the payment of $130,000 to Stephanie Clifford (a.k.a. Stormy Daniels), through an LLC, was an unreported in-kind contribution to President Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign committee in violation of the Federal Election Campaign Act.

Supreme Court Delays Redrawing of North Carolina Congressional Districts in Case Brought by Common Cause

Today the U.S. Supreme Court in Common Cause v. Rucho denied a stay request from North Carolina legislators ordered by a federal court to redraw the state’s unconstitutionally gerrymandered congressional districts by January 24, 2018. The stay was requested pending the Supreme Court’s ruling in two redistricting challenges before the Court.

Common Cause Urges Supreme Court to Reject Stay Request for Order to Redraw North Carolina Congressional Districts

Today, Common Cause filed a brief in Common Cause v. Rucho urging the U.S. Supreme Court to reject a stay request of a federal court ruling which ordered that the North Carolina Legislature redraw the state’s unconstitutionally gerrymandered congressional districts by January 24. The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina Middle District ruled last week that the Legislature had unconstitutionally drawn congressional district lines with the intent and effect of creating a severe partisan advantage for one side.

Common Cause Files Brief in Challenge to Outrageous Partisan Political Gerrymander of Pennsylvania Congressional Districts

Today, Common Cause filed an amicus brief in the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in support of a challenge to the state’s extreme partisan political gerrymander. Despite a roughly equal split in votes between the parties in each election since the 2011 redistricting, Republicans have consistently won 13 of the state’s 18 congressional seats. If successful, the case could result in the Court ordering the redrawing of the districts before the 2018 election.
