Virginie Kase Solomon

President & CEO

Virginia Kase Solomón is a nationally recognized leader who has dedicated her career to fighting for social justice and civil rights.

As President and CEO of Common Cause, Virginia leverages her 30 years of experience in advocacy, organizing, and policy to deliver pro-democracy wins at every level of government. She is the organization’s tenth president, fourth woman, and first Hispanic person to lead in the permanent role.

Prior to joining Common Cause, she served as CEO of the League of Women Voters where she led the organization through rapid growth and success. Under her watch the organization expanded state capacity, tripled the budget and staff, and increased membership by 30 percent. She led the League’s “No Excuses” campaign that successfully pressured President Biden to support ending the filibuster for voting rights legislation.

From 2013-2018, she served as Chief Operations Officer of CASA, an organization at the forefront of the immigrant rights movement, representing nearly 100,000 members. In that leadership role, Virginia managed the strategic growth, direction, and operations of the organization and served as a key thought leader on its politics and policy team.

Earlier in her career, Virginia served in leadership roles at various organizations where she developed grantmaking and capacity building programs for grassroots nonprofits that addressed issues of urban violence, economic, racial, and social inequality. During that time, she also studied what made these activities effective and used that information to assist groups in deepening their impact and identifying opportunities for cross-sector movement building.

Virginia’s activism started in her early 20’s when she co-founded a youth-led nonprofit in her hometown of Hartford, Connecticut. Motivated by her desire to create a positive change in her community, she organized youth to build power and grow their leadership to fight for employment and educational opportunities.

As a nationally respected leader, she has been asked to testify before Congress on voting and elections multiple times. She has appeared in major media outlets, including The New York Times, Time Magazine, Vogue, and more. In 2020, she was named in People en Español’s Most Powerful Women of the Year list, and in 2022 and 2023, she was named one of the 500 Most Influential People in Washington by Washingtonian Magazine.
