Common Cause Arizona Joined President Biden at Event Honoring Senator McCain in Arizona
Program Director Jenny Guzman urges the passage of voting rights legislation
TEMPE, AZ – Common Cause Arizona’s Program Director joined President Joe Biden in Tempe, Arizona, as he gave remarks on the state of our democracy in honor of Senator John McCain.
Statement of Jenny Guzman, program director for Common Cause Arizona:
“We are grateful for President Joe Biden’s commitment to strengthening Arizonans’—and all Americans’—civil liberties. Under his administration, we have a clear path ahead to protect and strengthen our democracy.
That’s why it is imperative we pass the Loi sur la liberté de vote et le John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. Voting is our sacred right, and as we’ve seen in Arizona, there are new threats constantly emerging and attempting to weaken that right.
The Freedom to Vote Act eliminates barriers to the ballot box and ensures every eligible voter can freely, fairly, and accessibly make their voice heard, helping to make real the promises of our democracy for all. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act will protect our freedom to vote from those who want to silence voters’ voices.
We ask President Biden to urge Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act as quickly as possible to help strengthen every voter’s voice ahead of the 2024 election.”
