Georgia Voters Head to the Polls Tuesday for Senate Run-off Election

Georgia voters have until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, to cast a ballot in the U.S. Senate runoff election.

ATLANTA — Georgia voters have until 7 p.m. Tuesday to cast a ballot in the U.S. Senate runoff election. As voters head to the polls, Common Cause Georgia is reminding voters that it may take days for election officials to finalize results.

“Every vote will be counted in this election, and that means it may take some time before we know who the winner is,” said Aunna Dennis, executive director of Common Cause Georgia. “My gratitude goes to the hard-working election workers who put in the hours in November and now again in this run-off election to ensure that every Georgian’s vote can be heard this year.

Georgia has a history of close races and its election systems have been shown to be safe, secure and accurate.

Georgia conducted its first statewide risk-limiting audit after the 2020 presidential

election, and the results released 16 days after Election Day confirmed that President Joe Biden garnered the most votes in Georgia. It was the largest hand count in the country’s history and a massive undertaking that proved the election tallies were safe, secure and accurate.

“While we have a long way to go to reduce the barriers that some of us needlessly face to cast our ballots, Georgians should know that our elections system has been shown to accurately count each and every vote,” Dennis said. “We get change when we vote for it, and I’m urging everyone who hasn’t voted yet to make a plan to get to their polling place on Election Day.” ’

Every registered voter in line at 7 p.m. when polls close will be given a chance to cast a ballot, Dennis said. Voters can look up their polling

Any absentee ballots must be received by the time polls close on Tuesday, Election Day at 7 p.m. Common Cause Georgia suggests that voters elect instead to vote in-person but if voters want to drop off their signed ballots, they can do so at secure drop boxes or their county registrar’s office. Those locations can be looked up here

Voters who have questions or problems can contact the nonpartisan Election Protection hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE.
