Common Cause Georgia Welcomes Additional Weekend Early Voting Options

Voters should make plans now for how they’ll cast a ballot for the Dec. 6 U.S. Senate runoff election

ATLANTA – Many voters in Georgia will be able to vote this weekend in the U.S. Senate runoff election, after recent court decisions paved the way for additional early voting options for the Dec. 6 election.

Some, but not all, counties in the state opted to add early voting days this week and weekend so voters have more options to cast their ballots before Election Day on Tuesday, December 6 for the run-off election. Among the counties adding on early voting days this weekend are Chatham, Clarke, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett,  Muscogee, and Walton counties.

Counties may continue announcing additional weekend voting options today, and voters should look up information on the state’s “My Voter Page” at https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/ or  through their county election office to find out what options they have.

In addition, all Georgia counties must provide early voting between Monday, Nov. 28 through Friday, Dec. 2.

Voters who have questions or face issues casting a ballot can text or call the nonpartisan Election Protection Hotline at 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683).

Statement from Aunna Dennis, Common Cause Georgia’s Executive Director

Every Georgian should be able to participate in this and every election by easily casting a ballot without barriers. That’s why it’s critical to have weekend early voting options, so that people can have the time to exercise their freedom to vote.

While I applaud the additional days being added in some places, having weekend early voting options should be universal and not be dependent on where in the state a voter lives.

Our state went backwards when our legislature passed anti-voter measures over the last two years that put in too many restrictions and roadblocks to voting.

I have no doubt that the people of our state will overcome those barriers in this December 6 runoff election and turn out to vote. But we, the people, need to keep pushing for equitable access to the ballot in our state so that we can work towards building a government that truly is of, by and for the people.
