Bryan manages Common Cause North Carolina’s multimedia production, social-media projects and press outreach.

Prior to joining Common Cause NC in January of 2015, Bryan worked for 10 years with the NC Center for Voter Education. He has a bachelor’s degree in communication and Spanish from Western Carolina University and an associate degree in Web technologies from Wake Technical Community College.

Civil Rights Groups File State Lawsuit Over North Carolina Redistricting Failures

Raleigh, N.C. (Oct. 29, 2021) — Civil rights groups filed a state lawsuit today challenging the North Carolina Legislature’s process for drawing new N.C. House and Senate voting maps. The suit would block proposed state legislative districts for failing to consider race during the initial stages of the map-making process in ways that could have devastating impacts on the representation of Black North Carolinians in violation of established state and federal law.

Common Cause NC files complaint calling for investigation of U.S. Postmaster DeJoy for alleged ‘straw donor’ scheme in North Carolina

RALEIGH – U.S. Postmaster Louis DeJoy should be investigated immediately for an alleged campaign donation scheme that may have violated North Carolina law, according to a complaint filed today by Common Cause NC with the State Board of Elections and also sent to Attorney General Josh Stein requesting a criminal investigation.

RALEIGH – On Friday, attorneys for plaintiffs in the anti-gerrymandering case of Common Cause v. Lewis filed a brief objecting to 19 new NC House districts drawn by the legislature. Plaintiffs are asking the court to redraw the districts in question.

Common Cause today filed a motion to affirm Common Cause v. Rucho, asking the U.S. Supreme Court to agree with a trial court ruling that North Carolina’s congressional map is an illegal partisan gerrymander. If the Supreme Court decides to hear Common Cause v. Rucho, it could result in the first ever decision by the high court stating that partisan gerrymandering violates the U.S. Constitution.

A panel of federal judges ruled Tuesday afternoon that the case of Common Cause v. Rucho can proceed to trial, denying a request by lawyers for the state legislature to delay the lawsuit. The case challenges partisan gerrymandering in North Carolina.
