In March 2022, the Maryland Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Prince George’s County residents. The Court upheld the lower-court ruling directing the Council throw out the widely opposed map and adopt the map proposed by the local commission. This decision comes after residents brought a lawsuit against the County.

In January 2022, Common Cause MD joined NAACP Baltimore County and partners as a plaintiff challenging Baltimore County’s unlawful redistricting plan.
In February 2022, Federal Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby granted a preliminary injunction blocking implementation of the County’s plan and ordering them to submit a new map that complies with the Voting Rights Act by March 2, 2022.
In March 2022, Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby entered an unfortunate ruling in NAACP v. Baltimore County that accepts the County Council’s remedial redistricting plan.
