“In Maryland elections, every voice should be heard, and every vote should count equally. But in our current system, politicians draw their own district lines to protect their seats and ensure their party stays in power. That is why we need clear rules that require our maps to reflect community interests instead of partisan gains. Elections should be determined by voters, not politicians who draw maps.

“The Fair Maps Act (HB1431/SB967) sponsored by Senator Mary Washington and Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins moves Maryland forward by creating clear rules for congressional redistricting. The rules will make our system less susceptible to the gerrymandering and abuse that has robbed the people of Maryland of their voice and their vote for decades. This is a step closer to an election system that is of, by, and for the people — not of, by and for the politicians.”
