Your Guide to Voting in Maryland
As Marylanders, our right to vote is a privilege and a responsibility, and it’s never been more important to make our voices heard – and encourage the people in our lives to do the same. Use the information below to vote in the general election by Tuesday, November 5.
Every eligible Marylander has the option to vote by mail, early in-person, or on Election Day. The sooner you confirm your process for voting by November 5th — the easier it’ll be for our elections officials to carry out a safe, secure, and accessible election.
2024 General Election
Voter Registration
The advance voter registration deadline is Tuesday, October 15. To register to vote online, click here.
- If you do not have a state ID, you can download a paper form to register.
- If you don’t have access to a printer, contact your local election board and request an application be sent to you by mail.
You can also choose to register and vote in-person during the early voting period (October 24 – October 31) and on Election Day from 7am – 8pm.
- Visit any early voting center in your county and bring a document that proves where you live. Accepted documents include MVA-issued license, ID card, or change of address card, your paycheck, bank statement, utility bill, or other government documents with your name and address.

- You can also text “check” to 77788.
If you have a felony conviction but are not currently incarcerated – you have the right to vote in the election.
- People who are currently incarcerated (in pre-trial deterntion or convicted of a misdemeanor) ARE eligible to vote in the election. Correctional facilities will be distributing election-related materials to ensure eligible voters can register and vote using mail-in voting process while incarcerated.
Please Note: If you missed the October 15 advance deadline to register to vote, you can register in person at an early voting center from October 24 – 31, or on Election Day at your assigned polling location.
Voting By Mail
The deadline to request a mail-in ballot to vote in the primary election is Tuesday, October 29, by 8pm.
- Request your ballot online through the Maryland State Board of Elections secure request form.
- You can also test “VBM” to 77788.
- If you can’t make your request online, ballot request forms were mailed to every eligible voter in the spring so check your mail. If you can’t find the copy that was mailed to you, you can download the paper forms below. Completed paper request forms must be returned to your local board of elections.
- If you requested a mail-in ballot, but have not recieved it:

- Contact your local board of election office for a replacement.
Please Note: If you request your ballot be delievered to you electronically (via email) you must be able to print and provide a return envelope and postage to submit that ballot. These ballots cannot be returned by email (your vote will not be counted). We recommend using this option only if you need to use an electronic ballot marking device. The deadline to request an electronically delivered ballot is Friday, November 1.
In-Person Voting
If you choose to vote in person, we encourage you to vote early.
Early voting will be available from Thursday, October 24 to Thursday, October 31. These locations will be open from 7am to 8pm. Voters can go to any location in their county to vote.
Don’t wait until Election Day to vote. If you must vote on Tuesday, November 8, you must be in line at your assigned polling place by 8pm. Go early if you can.

Voting & Submitting Your Ballot
Ballots for the primary election have already started going out to voters. Please note that you must submit a request to vote by mail in the election by November 1.
- When you recieve your ballot, fill in the oval to the left of your candidate and question choices using black ink to mark the ballot.

- We recommend returning your voted mail-in ballot using a secure drop box.
- If returning your voted ballot by mail, put your ballot in the mail box no later than November 1 – if possible – to allow a full week for delivery (avoiding any delays). No stamp is required.
- Ensure your ballot is not rejected! Sign and date the oath on the return envelope and make sure your ballot is postmarked on or before November 5 (by 8pm).
