Common Cause Maryland Names New Executive Director
Today, Common Cause announced that Joanne Antoine has been named Executive Director of Common Cause Maryland.
For the past two and a half years Joanne served as Common Cause Maryland’s State Outreach and Engagement Manager. In this role, she led and supported successful organizing campaigns to pass public financing of elections in numerous Maryland localities, a statewide ballot initiative on same day voter registration, grassroots activities and events in support of redistricting reform, and several state legislative campaigns.
“We are excited for Joanne to take on this new leadership position and continue to lead the democracy reform movement in Maryland,” said Common Cause president Karen Hobert Flynn. “Local reform can be beacon of hope in our broken democracy, and Joanne brings an extensive background and a deep commitment to working for a democracy that truly reflects and represents all of us.”
“I am excited to continue Common Cause Maryland’s work here in the state,” commented Antoine. “The last two years have been a tremendous time in Maryland democracy reform, but there’s still so much that needs to be done to advance accessible elections, campaign finance reform, and greater transparency. I look forward to broadening our coalitions, expanding our membership, and working collectively to build a more inclusive and reflective democracy that works for all Marylanders.”
Joanne has an extensive history working on political campaigns and volunteering in local community organizations. She has an undergraduate degree from New Jersey City University and a Master in Public Policy from Monmouth University.
