2021-2022 Local Redistricting

Common Cause Maryland has been monitoring the redistricting process at the local and state level. We have compiled maps that have been adopted in jurisdictions throughout the state as well as any of the relevant documents for your review. Please note that not all jurisdictions have redrawn their voting districts. While technology has helped increase transparency around the process this cycle, there is still a lot of work that needs to be done in order to ensure that we have fair maps that fully represent Maryland’s diverse population. COMMISSIONS & MAPS

We’ve compiled information on local maps that have been adopted. Please note that not all jurisdictions have provided maps in interactive formats or with map files. A few jurisdictions like Baltimore City have not started the redistricting process. If you have specific questions, please contact our redistricting coordinator at apetrovic@commoncause.org

In March 2022, the Maryland Court of Appeals ruled in favor of Prince George’s County residents. The Court upheld the lower-court ruling directing the Council throw out the widely opposed map and adopt the map proposed by the local commission. This decision comes after residents brought a lawsuit against the County.

In January 2022, Common Cause MD joined NAACP Baltimore County and partners as a plaintiff challenging Baltimore County’s unlawful redistricting plan.

In February 2022, Federal Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby granted a preliminary injunction blocking implementation of the County’s plan and ordering them to submit a new map that complies with the Voting Rights Act by March 2, 2022.

In March 2022, Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby entered an unfortunate ruling in NAACP v. Baltimore County that accepts the County Council’s remedial redistricting plan.
