Boston, MA – Today, the Boston City Council passed a resolution designating March 16-22, 2025 as ‘Sunshine Week,’ to shine a light on the importance of accessible and open government. The resolution was sponsored by City Councilor Liz Breadon and City Council President Ruthzee Louijeune and was filed in partnership with Common Cause Massachusetts and other good government advocates. Through the resolution, councilmembers affirmed their support for legislation requiring permanent remote access for public meetings, one of Common Cause’s top priorities for this legislative session.
“All Bostonians deserve an open, accessible, and transparent government. By passing this resolution, the Boston City Council is showing their commitment to open government this Sunshine Week and beyond,” said Geoff Foster, Executive Director of Common Cause Massachusetts. “Supporting legislation to require permanent remote access to public meetings is another key step to ensuring everyone can participate in our government.”
With a population of 653,833 people, Boston is the largest municipality in Massachusetts to voice support for permanently requiring remote access to public meetings.
