Press Release
Early Voting in the General Election to Start Saturday, Oct. 19
All eligible voters can cast a ballot ahead of Election Day
MASSACHUSETTS— Voters can cast a ballot in the 2024 November election starting tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 19. Early voting in-person is available from Saturday Oct. 19 through Friday Nov. 1. To find early voting locations and times, voters should visit the Secretary of State’s website.
“This is the first presidential election since COVID where voters can cast a ballot ahead of Election Day,” said Geoff Foster, Common Cause Massachusetts Executive Director. “We encourage everyone not to wait until Election Day to cast a ballot and join the tens of thousands of voters who will participate in early voting in this election.”
Common Cause Massachusetts is part of a national election protection coalition designed to recruit, train, and mobilize volunteers to assist voters at the polls. The coalition also runs the national nonpartisan voter assistance hotline: 866-OUR-VOTE. Voters who experience any challenges or have questions with any part of the voting process are encouraged to call or text the hotline to connect with experts who can help.
The nonpartisan voter assistance hotline is available in the following languages:
- ENGLISH: 866-OUR-VOTE / 866-687-8683
- SPANISH: 888-VE-Y-VOTA / 888-839-8682
- ASIAN LANGUAGES: 888-API-VOTE / 888-274-8683
- ARABIC: 844-YALLA-US / 844-925-5287
Nationally in 2020, the electorate broke early voting records with nearly 70% of voters casting a ballot by mail and/or before Election Day. Breaking that figure down, about 43% of voters cast ballots by mail, and another 26% voted in person ahead of Election Day. The 2020 election was the highest rate of nontraditional voting for a presidential election, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
In 2022, Common Cause Massachusetts and a coalition of organizations spearheaded the passage of the VOTES Act, a comprehensive election reform package that expanded early voting. Common Cause first championed expanding early voting in 2014, broadening the time Massachusetts voters can cast ahead of Election Day.
