Press Release

Early Voting Begins This Saturday, Aug. 24 for State Primary

This Saturday, August 24, all Massachusetts voters can begin casting a ballot in the State Primary Election.

Eligible voters can cast a ballot before Election Day

BOSTON, MA — This Saturday, August 24, all Massachusetts voters can begin casting a ballot in the State Primary Election. This Saturday is also the deadline to register to vote in-person or online. The state requires that early voting begins 10 days before state primary elections.

“With early voting, all eligible voters can make their voices heard in this year’s state primary election up to ten days before Election Day on Tuesday September 3,” said Geoff Foster, Common Cause Massachusetts Executive Director. “With early voting and vote by mail, we have more options for how we choose to cast a ballot and pick our state leaders. Common Cause Massachusetts encourages everyone to get out and vote before the long weekend.”

In 2022, Common Cause Massachusetts and statewide partners led the passage of the VOTES Act, a reform package that expanded early voting. Common Cause Massachusetts first championed expanding early voting in 2014, extending the time Massachusetts voters can cast ahead of Election Day.

If voters have any issues at the polls, Common Cause Massachusetts encourages them to call or text 866-OUR-VOTE, a nonpartisan hotline. The hotline has experts ready to assist voters who encounter long lines, need help finding their polling location, and any other help to cast a ballot.
