Election Protection

Every eligible voter deserves a say in the policies that impact their daily lives. That is why Common Cause mobilizes volunteers nationwide to help voters cast their ballot.

The right to vote and have our voices heard is fundamental to our democracy. In defense of this right, Common Cause co-leads the Election Protection Coalition to help Americans across the country navigate the voting process and cast their ballot without obstruction, confusion, or intimidation. Our election protection efforts include:

  • Deploying thousands of on-the-ground volunteers at polling places
  • Recruiting a team of legal experts to staff the 866-OUR-VOTE hotline
  • Monitoring social media for harmful election disinformation

These election protection efforts are a crucial line of defense for voters against suppression tactics, confusing laws, outdated infrastructure, and more. Above all, we inform voters of their rights, help elections officials handle problems in real time, and notify attorneys when the situation warrants legal intervention.

What We’re Doing

Protect the Vote in 2024

Campaign

Protect the Vote in 2024

We know that far too many voters in Michigan, especially voters of color, face barriers to the ballot box—like long lines, not enough voting machines or equipment, confusing laws, disinformation, or even just human error.

That is why this year, Common Cause Michigan is part of the largest nonpartisan Election Protection effort yet. We are mobilizing nonpartisan volunteers across the state to help voters cast their ballot freely and fairly without confusion, obstruction, or intimidation.

Our democracy works best when every voter can participate and when every ballot is counted as cast. Voters deserve to be informed and prepared to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

Michigan Senate Passes Trio of Anti-Voter Bills

Every Michigander deserves to be heard by their government, regardless of their age, race, political party, or zip code. These anti-voter bills are just another blatant attempt to put up barriers between people and their right to vote. We urge the Michigan House to reject this partisan attack on Michigan voters’ constitutionally protected voting rights.
