Our Impact
Common Cause has been fighting for and winning key democracy reforms since our founding in 1970.
With the support of our dedicated members, we have shown up time and time again to protect Michiganders’ rights. We will continue to make our government here in Michigan more open, honest, and accountable.

Mobilizing Election Protection Volunteers
Each election year, Common Cause Michigan mobilizes nonpartisan volunteers across the state to serve as a first line of defense for voters. These volunteers answer voters’ questions at their polling places, make sure that voters know their rights, and report any attempts to intimidate or obstruct voters. This program has helped countless Michiganders make themselves heard at the ballot box.
Passing Prop 2 of 2022
In 2022, Michigan voters overwhelmingly approved Prop 2-22 after a hard-fought campaign led by Promote the Vote and made possible by key partners, including Common Cause Michigan. This ballot initiative implemented a suite of proven, pro-voter reforms that voters had signed off on in the previous election, including creating a nine-day early voting period, increasing the number of ballot drop boxes in the state, and establishing a permanent mail voter list.
