LANSING, Mich. — This morning, the Promote the Vote 2022 coalition (of which Common Cause Michigan is a member) declared victory in the passing of Prop. 2, a voting reform ballot measure.

Michigan voters overwhelmingly voted in favor, with nearly 60% support at the time of release.

The measure will result in statewide voting reform, including:

  • Recognizing the fundamental right to vote without harassing conduct;
  • Requiring military or overseas ballots to be counted if postmarked by Election Day;
  • Providing voters the right to verify identity with photo ID or signed statement;
  • Requiring state-funded absentee-ballot drop boxes, and postage for absentee applications and ballots;
  • Providing that only election officials may conduct post-election audits; and
  • Require nine days of early in-person voting.

Statement of Quentin Turner, Common Cause Michigan Program Director

“Today marks a huge win for voting reform and the fight to make voting accessible for all in Michigan.

Michiganders came out and voted strongly in favor of Prop. 2 because we support the right to constitutionally protected and expanded equal access at the ballot. Our elections should be safe, secure, and free for everyone, regardless of political party, and the voters proved it on Tuesday. We are thankful to our Michiganders, and we are thankful to have been a part of the coalition that worked tirelessly to make democracy work.”
