Michiganders Secure A “Huge Victory for Democracy” After State Board of Canvassers Certify Election Results
LANSING, Mich. — This afternoon, the Michigan State Board of Canvassers voted unanimously to certify the results of the 2022 election. The vote is the first certification of a general election since Big Lie proponents publicly pressured GOP members not to certify the 2020 results.
Despite mild disturbance from bad faith proponents and urging from a few unsuccessful candidates to reject the results, the certification was swiftly made official.
In addition to the winning candidates being certified, the board also certified the results of all three ballot proposals including Prop. 2, a voting reform-centered ballot initiative.
Statement of Quentin Turner, Common Cause Michigan Program Director
“Today marks a huge victory for democracy in Michigan.
Michiganders believe in the freedom of vote and believe in democracy. Since 2020, we’ve faced lies about our election system, and the majority of Michiganders have consistently rejected those lies. With today’s election certification, we can be proud Michigan has once again defeated election denialism and conspiracy theories.
We are thankful for the election and poll workers, clerks, Board of State Canvassers and every Michigander who ensured this election was fair, safe, and accessible for everyone.”
