Election Protection

Every eligible voter deserves a say in the policies that impact their daily lives. That is why Common Cause mobilizes volunteers nationwide to help voters cast their ballot.

The right to vote and have our voices heard is fundamental to our democracy. In defense of this right, Common Cause co-leads the Election Protection Coalition to help Americans across the country navigate the voting process and cast their ballot without obstruction, confusion, or intimidation. Our election protection efforts include:

  • Deploying thousands of on-the-ground volunteers at polling places
  • Recruiting a team of legal experts to staff the 866-OUR-VOTE hotline
  • Monitoring social media for harmful election disinformation

These election protection efforts are a crucial line of defense for voters against suppression tactics, confusing laws, outdated infrastructure, and more. Above all, we inform voters of their rights, help elections officials handle problems in real time, and notify attorneys when the situation warrants legal intervention.

Let NY Vote Coalition on BOE Commissioner Kellner’s Departure

We are incredibly appreciative of his nearly two decades in public service as Commissioner and Co-Chair of the New York State Board of Elections. We look forward to working with incoming Commissioner and former NYC Council member Henry Berger to prioritize transparency, equity and voter-friendly reforms ahead of this year's 2024 election cycle and...

Common Cause/NY Demands Congress Expel George Santos

"Today's fact finding bi-partisan report from the House Ethics Committee makes it crystal clear that Mr. Santos is unfit for public office. Recognizing the seriousness of the remedy of expulsion, Common Cause/NY has waited for the process to play out appropriately. Now we and the House of Representatives are left with only one option: Congress must expel Mr. Santos. It's been clear for a long time that the voters have been defrauded, and Mr. Santos' seat in Congress is tantamount to an ill gotten gain: he should not be allowed to profit from...
