Today, Common Cause is filing amended complaints with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to include President Trump himself as well as his personal attorney Michael Cohen for their roles in what appear to be numerous violations of campaign finance law related to the $130,000 hush money payment to Stephanie Clifford (a.k.a. Stormy Daniels) just weeks before the 2016 election. The amended filings come in light of new details, in the form of court filings, public statements and published reports, that have emerged since Common Cause filed its original complaints in January.

Common Cause is part of a coalition of groups urging a federal appeals court to overturn a Federal Communications Commission decision that threatens the survival of minority-owned media outlets.

Last night, NBC News reported that adult film actress Stephanie Clifford, aka “Stormy Daniels,” is suing President Trump for violating their nondisclosure agreement created shortly before the 2016 election. The lawsuit filed by Clifford adds new information that underscores arguments Common Cause made in its January 2018 complaints to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) and Department of Justice (DOJ) alleging the hush money payment was a violation of federal campaign finance law.
