Common Cause NC는 Democracy Fellows와 노스캐롤라이나의 HBCU 학생들에게 힘을 실어준 18년을 기념합니다.

For 18 years, Common Cause North Carolina has worked to empower students at our state’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities through our HBCU Student Action Alliance. That legacy continues today with our Common Cause Democracy Fellows strengthening civic engagement at all 10 HBCU campuses in North Carolina and ensuring students have a voice at the ballot box and in the halls of government.

As this year’s spring semester neared an end, our current class of Common Cause Democracy Fellows from HBCUs across the state gathered at Shaw University in Raleigh for a day of celebration and reflection on the important work they accomplished – and to look forward to what’s next.

This past spring 2024 semester alone, our Democracy Fellows:

  • helped more than 200 HBCU students register to vote
  • contacted more than 7,500 voters and encouraged them to participate in North Carolina’s March primary
  • organized election forums with information about offices on the ballot and how they impact students
  • helped lead marches to the polls at all 10 HBCU campuses for the primary election
  • served as Election Protection volunteers at polling places in the community, helping to ensure every voter’s rights were respected at the polls

The crucial work of Common Cause NC and our outstanding Democracy Fellows continues, as we prepare for this fall’s election and carry on the legacy of empowering a new generation of democracy leaders.
