Common Cause NC urges Gov. Cooper to veto voter ID bill
RALEIGH – On Thursday, the NC General Assembly passed a photo ID requirement for voting (Senate Bill 824) and sent the measure to Gov. Roy Cooper for his signature or veto. Common Cause NC respectfully calls upon Gov. Cooper to veto this legislation.
“Not only was this voter ID bill pushed through by a lame-duck legislature, but the measure fails to fully protect eligible voters in North Carolina,” said Bob Phillips, executive director of Common Cause NC. “Make no mistake, this legislation would have a negative effect on eligible voters, with a disproportionate impact on senior citizens, students and voters of color. Therefore, we respectfully urge Governor Cooper to veto this bill.”
