Common Cause North Carolina Responds to Hurricane Helene, Joins Recovery Efforts
RALEIGH – Following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina, Bob Phillips, executive director of Common Cause North Carolina issued the following statement:
“Our hearts break for our neighbors, friends, partners, and loved ones impacted by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina.
“Our team stands ready to amplify community-based relief efforts and make a financial commitment of $25,000, distributed among several disaster relief and mutual aid groups providing food, water, and shelter across all Western North Carolina counties and the Qualla Boundary. We are encouraging Common Cause members nationally to do the same.
“Our October 13 CAROLINADAZE benefit concert was slated to be held at one of Asheville’s beloved institutions, Salvage Station, which has sustained heavy damage from flooding. We’re focused on supporting the Salvage Station team and staff as we navigate next steps, and we will provide regular updates on social media once we know more.
“In the coming weeks, we will also ensure that this disaster does not prevent any North Carolinian from exercising their right to vote. The road to recovery is long and our top priority is rebuilding our communities together.”
