St. Augustine’s students march to the polls in Raleigh election

Led by the school’s marching band, students from Saint Augustine’s University walked together to the polls on Tuesday to make their voices heard in Raleigh’s local election.

The march to the polls was organized by Common Cause NC and the SAU Student Government Association.

“I hope that this helps students recognize that we need to vote,” said Mackeyla Davis, a student at SAU and a Democracy Fellow with Common Cause NC. “It’s something that needs to be done yearly. This is our civic duty.”

Common Cause NC also helped organize a march to the polls with Shaw University students during the early voting period for Raleigh’s election.

“It’s incredibly important, because black votes matter. And not just that, black millennial votes matter,” said Michael Spencer, campus program manager with Common Cause NC. “It’s necessary that these students get their voices involved in the process.”
