Common Cause Announces 2021 “My Voice, My Art, our Cause” Artivism Contest Winner

Today, Common Cause announced Selorm Tettevi, 28, of Fairfield, Ohio as the third-place winner of the 2021 Artivism Contest. The competition was designed by the Common Cause Student Action Alliance to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Common Cause and the passage of the 26th Amendment, which lowered the voting age from 21 to 18.

The event was part of a national week of action happening while U.S. Senators are home on their legislative break, designed to pressure them to reform the filibuster if necessary to pass critical voting rights legislation.

Common Cause Ohio Calls for Greater Transparency and Participation in Final Leg of Redistricting

Today, Common Cause Ohio is urging the Ohio General Assembly to create a more transparent and participatory redistricting process for the drawing of congressional district maps. The call comes as the Ohio House Government Oversight Committee and the Senate Local Government and Elections Committee announced that they will hold hearings on bills that are simply placeholders and do not present actual maps.

Today, Fair District Ohio announced that they have officially submitted winners from their Fair Districts Mapping Competition to the Ohio Redistricting Commission for consideration. Each of these maps were evaluated by the Princeton Gerrymandering Project and garnered Bs — the highest grade awarded to any Ohio map so far.

Fair Districts Ohio Announces Winners of Congressional Mapping Competition

Today, leaders of Fair Districts Ohio announced the winners of the Fair Districts Redistricting Competition for Ohio’s U.S. congressional map. The competition was designed not only to produce constitutional maps that could serve as alternatives to any maps proposed by Ohio’s official mapmakers, but to educate Ohioans about how maps can be adapted, improved, and revised with public input.
