TAKE ACTION BEFORE GOV. DEWINE SIGNS HOUSE BILL 315 INTO LAW

Please email Gov. Mike DeWine to urge him to line item veto a new provision of HB315 that will make Ohio less transparent by enabling additional costs to public records requests to law enforcement.

Unexpected things happen during lame duck sessions and on December 18, a change in open government and public records was snuck into House Bill 315 (Pages 71 and 72 of HB 315 as enrolled). This change allows law enforcement to charge the public $75 per hour (with a cap of $750) for the agency to “retrieve, download, review, redact, seek legal advice regarding, and produce the video record.”

Urge Gov. Mike DeWine to line item veto this particular portion of House Bill 315 because it restricts transparency regarding state and local policing by dramatically altering Ohio’s public records laws.
