Common Cause Ohio’s Coffee Hour Follow Up

Thanks to members who joined our monthly coffee hour.  We always enjoy discussing what’s important to you and all things democracy. In this coffee hour , we’re looking back at some of the work we did in the past year, and thinking about what lies ahead.

Redistricting

Volunteers powered the effort to end gerrymandering, and along the way they built grassroots networks, distribution systems, and volunteer armies. That will stand us in good stead for future efforts.

  • Please join us in Columbus on December 14, 2-4pm, to celebrate the work of our Fair Districts volunteers! RSVP HERE. All are invited.

Meanwhile, we’re keeping an eye on other possible ballot initiatives:

Election Protection

Our nonpartisan voter outreach and support for 2024 was significant. We helped thousands of Ohioans as they navigated registering, requesting a ballot, finding their voting location, and tracking their ballot. We trained almost 600 advocates across 29 counties who donated 1,900 hours toward our efforts! We will continue our work at the county level, joining boards of elections meetings across the state. Email Kelly Dufour at kdufour@commoncause.org if you’d like to help in your county.

Dark Money in Judicial Elections

It’s no secret that billionaire money is distorting our elections–but it IS often a secret where that money comes from. Common Cause Ohio is trying to shine a light on money in judicial elections via its Judge the Ads project. Last week we held a webinar to dig deeper.

Lame Duck Election Bills – Take Action

Track lame duck bills at this link. In particular, we are concerned with two massive voting and election bills, SB 324 and Sub HB 552

  • Please call your legislators to tell them voting and elections bills should not be rushed! No changes should be made without research, and thorough consultation with local Boards of Elections.

Looking Forward

We want to hear from you! If you have a concern or a focus area you think Common Cause Ohio should work on in 2025, please let us know. Are you interested in helping voters, diving into dark money, or discussing pro-democracy policy? Send a note to cturcer@commoncause.org with your interests.
