Gov. Wolf Names Common Cause to the Census 2020 Complete Count Commission
Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (February 22, 2019) – Today, Governor Tom Wolf selected organizations to be on Pennsylvania’s Census 2020 Complete Count Commission, including Common Cause Pennsylvania. The Commission will support the commonwealth’s efforts to achieve a complete and accurate census count.
Common Cause Pennsylvania has been an early advocate underscoring the importance of the upcoming 2020 Census. “In all of our efforts to strengthen democracy so it works for everyone, Common Cause promotes a reflective and representative democracy that looks like the rich diversity of our people, and represents the shared values born of different life experiences of the people living in 21st Century America,” said Micah Sims, Executive Director.
“It is impossible to diminish the importance of the census as the foundation of representative self-governance and every Americans’ ability to help shape the future of our families and communities. The census is critical to representation at all levels of government and the federal resources that support our states, communities, and constituencies. I’m honored to serve on the Governor’s Census 2020 Complete Count Committee and will work in collaboration with other commission participants making sure every possible effort is made to have a complete and accurate census count. It will be important to invest resources early in previously undercounted areas in the commonwealth to improve our self-response rate.” Sims added.
Common Cause believes that every person counts and will continue our efforts to inform, educate, and encourage groups, organizations, faith communities, businesses, and every day people to participate and encourage others to participate and understand the importance of the census.
